Job Summary:

As the Investor Relations and Engagement Associate at Lokal Capital, you will play a pivotal role in driving our mission of localizing venture investing in Africa. You will be responsible for building and nurturing relationships with local investors, managing partnerships with investment institutions and ecosystem players, overseeing the investment process, creating and curating content, and monitoring and evaluating the performance of our investor network.

Key Responsibilities


Investor recruitment and engagement

  • Building and qualifying a deep investor network, both across the country and Africa.
  • Meet with potential investors with the aim of recruiting and pitching the investor network to them.
  • Develop a model for procuring introductions and referrals to new investors.
  • Identify and attend events where there is a strong possibility of generating investor leads.
  • Develop a monthly & yearly engagement framework for investors in the network. The framework should include a monthly engagement process for each network member and regular physical networking opportunities for investors.

Partner engagement and management

  • Develop relationships with seed-stage investment institutions, and other ecosystem players ensuring that relevant events and opportunities e.g., demo or deal days are shared with the network.
  • Create a database of other early-stage investors/financiers, their investment criteria, and key information for portfolio companies to engage for follow-on funding & co-investments.
  • Create partnerships with programs or events that are looking to partner with the investor network community.
  • Negotiate tickets and discounts for investors to attend relevant conferences and investment forums.

Investment management

  • Manage investor identification and engagement during the investment process.
  • Follow up with the investors to check if they’re interested in the deals or what should be the next step.
  • Manage the syndication process to ensure the investment is made in a timely manner.
  • Support in portfolio management of the investments and reporting framework on the portfolio companies to be shared with the respective syndicate on a quarterly basis.
  • Acknowledging receipt of Investments by Investors once they deposit to the company account.
  • Keeping and updating investor information records – amounts, dates of investments, rates, contact information, etc.

Content creation and curation

  • On a regular basis publish a blog on an area of interest around early-stage investing or activities of Lokal Capital.
  • Develop a framework to offer capacity building in the form of masterclasses and webinars on a regular basis to ensure they improve their knowledge of the private capital asset class.

Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting

  • Sending monthly qualitative and quantitative reports to the team summarizing the status of the community, investment activity in the network (open syndications), and areas in need of support.
  • Supporting the development of the portfolio report and sharing with syndicate investors.
  • Develop and conduct bi-annual surveys to check the status of the investors in the network.
  • Develop and conduct a net promoter score exercise for the network to ensure the investors are happy with the network.
